Gartner Survey Recommends Roaming Savings
The cost of mobile roaming has become more difficult to manage
in the face of globalization and network price changes. EU Price Caps help those based in Europe for voice calls but typically, 10%
of users who travel internationally will make up over 35% of the total mobile
service costs for businesses in 2010.
Voice-roaming charges are one cause of growing wireless bills, but Data Roaming is in many cases a greater factor and one often unseen by users. International Data Roaming can drive up bills, often reaching massive proportions in a single short trip. Gartner recommends that companies stop this ad-hoc use of International Wireless Data and implement clear policy alternates such as Wi-Fi or Local SIM Rental.
Gartner goes on to suggests that cutting roaming by
reducing the number of users who travel and by making users aware of the costs can actually be counter productive despite potentially reducing the volume and the length of calls. In addition, executives away from base are more likely to want to make personal calls home and indeed, should be allowed to do so.
FoneRent have worked with a number of UK & USA based businesses recently to help them reduce this cost area and this includes analysis of costs, recommendations on areas of saving and also the implementation of online order services linked to Intranets and integrated with the Company Travel policy - a compelling and effective cost reduction exercise in tough economic times. Indeed, one prominent London based bank estimate their own costs savings with FoneRent at £30,000.00 per annum which represents almost 15% of the total mobile bill.
