New EU Roaming Cap Highlights Rip Off
EU legislation introduced today has further suppressed the amount that mobile operators can charge for inter-EU roaming.
Despite this there is still a huge gap between what you pay to use your own mobile and the amount that local users pay. As a simple example, making a 10 minute call in Paris to a local French number will cost you around £3.00 at best, but with a local French SIMSaver Number it would be as low as £1.00, a massive 66% saving.
And, despite data coming under the EU spotlight, operators have to cap usage at £45.00 which can be as little as 10 MB of access at current rates. FoneRent can give you an unlimited data bundle in most locations across the EU and as an example our German Unlimited Data Option can give you uninterupted access to the Internet for as little as £60.00.
Ian Turner, FoneRent's Billing & Tariff Manager commented, 'It's a shame that the carriers only react to legislation and in many ways the publicity has a negative effect, lulling users into a sense of better value when actually the costs remain very high. And many consumers forget that this 'cap' applies just to EU calling. Calls from the EU to non-European locations and roaming beyond EU boundaries are not affected. Indeed, there is clear evidence to show that network providers are actually increasing the costs in other locations to off-set the loss of EU revenue'.
